The Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design (FWSD) is a new prototype Department for the academic data of the country created in 2019 at the University of Thessaly in application of Law 4589\/2019.<\/p>

Its students follow an innovative 5-year study program which, upon completion, leads to the awarding of a single and indivisible postgraduate degree (integrated master) in the specialty of Forester, Wood Scientist & Product Designer. This program provides vertically integrated knowledge from the sustainable management of the natural environment, to the utilization of its main products, with an emphasis on wood and its uses, but also on product design. It is precisely this level of knowledge that we believe is an important competitive advantage, in a job market that requires graduates with the best academic background, acquisition of valuable skills and integrated thinking.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Department operates with 2 study directions (Natural Environment Management and Wood Sciences & Design) from the 7th semester onwards. The Undergraduate Study Program provides FWSD students in addition to the compulsory courses and a wide variety of elective courses aimed at providing advanced knowledge in specific objects of the natural environment, the utilization of wood, the design of furniture and other objects mainly based on wood, administration, organization, economy and the introduction of modern technology in organizations and businesses that find direct application in the labor market. At the same time, Master's and Doctoral Studies Programs are also operating.<\/p>

The FWSD Department has excellent infrastructure and building facilities (3 Auditoriums, 20 laboratories and teaching rooms, 45 offices) of more than 4000 sq.m., which are developed on an area of more than 10,000 sq.m. The laboratory and research equipment is exemplary, thus ensuring the perfect transfer of cutting-edge knowledge to the subjects treated by the Department. In addition, the student is provided with relevant training in the context of his internship both in the private sector and in public services.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The faculty members of the Department have a high-level research profile, with important publications in journals and conferences and with the supervision and participation in dozens of national and international competitive research programs.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Department is based in Karditsa, a city in the center of Greece at very close distances from major urban centers, such as Larissa (50 minutes), Thessaloniki (2.5 hours) and Athens (3.5 hours). The city of Karditsa is an important academic center of the country's higher education with an extensive academic park within the residential fabric of the city, with 5 University Departments and four (4) study programs of the Integration Council (former TEI of Thessaly), and the student population that maintains is significant (over 2000 active students). Due to its long tradition of hosting students, the city has developed infrastructure friendly to student life, such as an extensive network of cycle paths and municipal bicycles.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
