The MSc was established by Official Gazette 3685/03.09.2020 t'B and is operating for the first time from the academic year 2020-2021. Msc in Multifunctional Management of Natural Ecosystems and Bio-economy is the Unique Postgraduate that operates in Greek Higher Education and specializes in all modern subjects related to the management of forest ecosystems and the natural resources of great value that they maintain such as forests, meadows, wetlands and game species, in technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, in the marketing of biological products, in investments aimed at the exploitation of natural resources, while at the same time there is an emphasis on innovative approaches related to High Added Value wood products, the production of non-wood forest products such as mushrooms, resin and aromatic plants, in the management of urban greenery, ecotourism, in modern applications of Geographical Information Systems in the utilization and management of natural resources and in biomass energy utilization technologies.

Recognized scientists from the HEIs and the private sector teach at MSc in Multifunctional Management of Natural Ecosystems, while students benefit both from educational excursions and from scientific days organized on cutting-edge topics.

The courses are designed to address young scientists graduates of the Departments of Forestry, Forestry, Wood and Furniture Technology, or a related specialty, but also graduates of Polytechnic Schools, graduates of the Departments of Agriculture, Science, Economics, Management, Marketing, Pedagogy Departments or graduates of other Departments HEIs (Universities or TEIs) with relative relevance to the subject of the above-mentioned PMS that are judged by the competent Postgraduate Student Selection Committee on a case-by-case basis.

The courses are held on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings, in order to facilitate the students who live a long distance from the Department headquarters.
