On Saturday, May 18, 2024, an educational excursion took place with teachers and students of PMS POLYVIO in the wider area of Kalambaka. The excursion included (a) analysis of the structural elements of a traditional mossy oak (Quercus pubescens) forest-pasture system, (b) truffle hunting with a specially trained dog, (c) application of a grassland condition protocol in the field, (d) a tour of the Natural History Museum and Mushrooms, (e) analysis of the urban green spaces of the city of Kalambaka. Actions (a) – (c) took place in an area near the settlement of Theopetra, while actions (d) and (e) took place in the city of Kalambaka. The actions took place within the framework of the courses: MB112 Contemporary approaches in forest management, MB122 Contemporary approaches in rangeland management – Agroforestry, MB 125 Management of ecosystems for the production of Non-Wood Forest products (mushrooms, resin, aromatics) and MB126 Urban green management. The participants of the excursion had the opportunity to discuss with the experts on the training of the dogs for the detection and capture of the black and white truffle, the conditions of its cultivation and in addition they tasted truffle-pasta prepared in the field!
